Shabraque or Housing for Grimsley Dragoon saddle w/Valise

Description

Outstanding reproduction of a 2nd Cavalry staff officer's Shabraque or Saddle Housing. This one fits over a Grimsley perfectly, will fit a McClellan but not as perfectly. The pattern for this was from an original formerly at the U.S. Army's Frontier Army Museum located at Ft. Riley Kansas.  Openings for pommel and cancel are fitted with black leather as is the outer edge. Each stirrup strap passes through the housing and has a leather chape to cut down on wear. The near side has a stitched leather saber shape to prevent the hanging saber from damaging the shabrque. Underside of the shabraque is covered with blackened Cotton canvas.
The valise is lined with pillow ticking, has yellow leather on edges and ends, three stay loops for securing to rear coat straps, and two sewn straps to secure flap in the closed position.
I used this exactly twice, after each use it was folded and hung back in the closet.
