    Description

    Restored Sheaffer
EXCELLENT 1ST YEAR Black Snorkel White Dot Crest Medium Point
    Length capped - 5 1/2"
    Point - Medium
This black Crest is in excellent restored condition. There are two very, very slight dings on the side of the cap that are, to the extent possible, shown in two photos. They are very difficult to find, even when you know where they are. The price has been reduced to account for this condition. Also, the section and nib apparently
    were
    replaced
and show almost no wear. This pen is a great writer.
Snorkel pens made in the first year of production (1952) were equipped with a 14k gold Snorkel tube. The company didn't advertise or otherwise publicize this, and it wasn't until a pair of collectors sent a tube for assay in the 60s that the first-year Snorkels became collectibles.
Crest pens with their gold-filled caps and White dot trim are the premier models of the Snorkel line. In 1952 a Crest pen like this sold for , which is equal to 6 today. Note that Sheaffer did not allow its dealers to discount the price. Those who did lost their dealer status and were not allowed to purchase more stock.
I will include a photocopy of an original Sheaffer Snorkel paper instructions leaflet.
    All restorations include
    disassembly, cleaning,
replacement of all seals and the sac,

refinishing the plastic, stainless steel, and gold-filled surfaces,
filling the pen with ink (not just dipping)
and producing multiple writing samples over 2 days (like the one in the photo).
I guarantee the pens I restore write smoothly and fill as designed.
