    Description

This is a reproduction of the letter Ulysses S. Grant sent to Robert E. Lee at Appomattox, Virginia.
This letter describes the terms of the Confederate surrender of the Civil War.
Printed on stiff parchment paper which unfolds to measure 11.5" x 15".
It comes in the original envelope which is titled: "Enclosed is a letter from General U. S. Grant to General Robert E. Lee
stating the terms of the surrender and allowing Confederate soldiers
to retain their horses and personal property April 9th, 1865."
I don't know much more about this repro letter. I found it in a box of old paper and ephemera in the estate of a relative whose ancestors fought in the Civil War.
See my other auctions for a parchment portrait of Grant with personal thoughts or quotes.
I can combine multiple items won for one low shipping cost if you request a combined invoice.
