    Description

Civil War "Housewife" Sewing Kit, Cpl. Gilpin, Quality Hand Constructed Reproduction + USSC Poke/Ration Bag
This not the typical Kit you see for sale. This  represents the finest museum quality reproduction available today. Patterned  after originals with special attention to details and fabric selection. I used  calico print fabrics designed and reproduced by Barbara Brackman and Judie  Rothermel who copy originals. So these are period CW designs and colors.
This Kit is copied from an original belonging to  Corporal Levi Gilpin of the 51st Ohio Vol. Inf., Company E. It measures 3-1/2" wide by 13-3/4" in length. It has 4 pockets, a built in pincushion, & two layers wool to hold pins & needles. It is bound with  black polished cotton. Closes with cotton twill tape.  Also included in this auction is a bonus "poke" bag, to put your kit in or anything else like modern prescriptions, etc.. All visible stitching is done by hand. See pics for additional information as they are part of the description.
    Contents include:
    - Original Bone & MOP Buttons
    - Cotton Thread
    - Folding Scissors
    - Brass Safety Pin
    - Straight Pins & Needles
    - Patch material
Bonus Bag: Copied from original USSC stamped bag belonging to John Buffington. Made from "tea-dyed" muslin and is closed with cotton twill taping. Visable stitching by hand. ( value)
