CHAMPION SPARK PLUGS & AB JENKIN'S MORMON METEOR
    CHAMPION SPARK PLUGS
Champion is an American brand of spark plug. The Champion company was founded by Robert A. Stranahan and Frank D. Stranahan in 1908, in Boston, Massachusetts. The company moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1910 to be close to the Willys-Overland Auto Company.
In 1931, Champion introduced its first suppressor-type spark plugs. This innovation used a carbon-based resistor to reduce the effects of ignition noise on radio waves.
In 1989, Champion was purchased by Cooper Industries, and is now a wholly owned brand of Federal-Mogul Corporation. Its main products are a line of spark plugs for a wide range of cars, trucks, SUVs, racing and marine applications. Also included in the brand, depending on the regional market and brand history, are spark plug wires, wiper blades, batteries, oil filters, lighting, and glow plugs.
Champion is also a longtime sponsor of various racing events, cars, and series including two series run under sanctioning by IMSA.
AB JENKINS & THE MORMON METEOR
David Abbott "Ab" Jenkins (January 25, 1883 – August 9, 1956) was the 24th mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah from 1940 to 1944 and was a professional race car driver. Jenkins' interest in motorsports began with racing motorcycles on dirt tracks and cross country. He then became interested in land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He was instrumental in establishing Bonneville as a location for such events, and in attracting overseas drivers such as George Eyston and Sir Malcolm Campbell to compete there.
Jenkins drove the Duesenberg "Mormon Meteor" to a 24-hour average land speed record of 135 miles per hour (217 km/h) in 1935. In 1940 Jenkins set the 24-hour record of a 161.180 mph (259.394 km/h) average that lasted for 50 years (until 1990).
Ab Jenkins died on a visit to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
